Visit Indonesia is a cinematic and immersive web experience designed to inspire travelers to explore the world’s largest archipelago. The website blends cultural reverence with modern digital storytelling, using rich visuals, subtle animations, and smooth scroll interactions to evoke the magic of Indonesia’s temples, landscapes, and spiritual heritage.

Concept and Direction

The core concept revolves around “Journey Through Light” — transitioning from mystical night scenes to vibrant daylight, symbolizing discovery and awakening. Inspired by Indonesia’s ancient temples, lush nature, and spiritual symbolism, the design fuses traditional motifs (mandalas, temple architecture) with contemporary web animation. A serene yet vibrant color palette shifts between deep indigos and emerald greens to warm golds and terracotta tones, mirroring the passage from night to day.

Design Approach

The hero section features a powerful looping video background with an overlaid color-changing H1 that shifts hues as the user scrolls. A soft background gradient combined with leaf SVGs and a custom decorative SVG overlay creates depth and organic shape, giving the interface a handcrafted, tropical feel.

Key interactive elements include:

A Vajra-inspired scroll effect on the temple hero where mandalas gently spin and orbit as the user scrolls.
Smooth night-to-day transition with temple imagery.
Floating leaf SVGs and subtle gradient movements for added life.
Temple gallery with rich imagery.
An interactive map of Indonesia where hovering over islands triggers scale animation, color shifts, and regional highlights.

All animations were built with Framer, emphasizing performance and elegance.

User Experience (UX)

Navigation is intentionally minimal and intuitive, allowing the breathtaking visuals and scroll-driven storytelling to take center stage. The sticky scroll hero creates a memorable, cinematic first impression, while the interactive map offers playful exploration. Every scroll reveals new layers — spinning mandalas, shifting colors, and evolving atmospheres — encouraging users to slow down and immerse themselves in the journey. The experience feels meditative yet engaging, perfectly suited for a tourism brand.

Outcome

The final mockup successfully captures the spiritual beauty and vibrant diversity of Indonesia. By combining video, dynamic typography, SVG animations, and advanced scroll interactions, the site creates an emotional connection with visitors. It stands as a strong portfolio piece demonstrating capability in cinematic storytelling, scroll-based design, and cultural sensitivity through modern web techniques.
